GAAD 2025 in Nova Gorica — Reflections from Gyurica Albert, RTV Slovenija

Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) was celebrated yesterday around the world. On this occasion, Gyurica Albert from RTV Slovenija attended the GAAD 2025 event in Nova Gorica:

At the event, he promoted awareness about the meaning, role, and quality of subtitles on the screens of our multimedia devices. He emphasized the importance of AI in preparing synchronized subtitles, while noting that specific measures must be taken to ensure accessibility.

Albert stressed that raw AI will always return a transcript, and that simply dividing this text into two rows of a specific length is not sufficient for accessibility. Content prepared in this way does not represent true subtitles as we have known them in the past. Therefore, it is essential to open a dialogue and raise awareness about this issue.

He also spoke about the role of AI in localization, in overcoming language barriers, and in enabling the sharing of experiences. In his talk, he highlighted RTV’s involvement in a project to co-create the next EU multimodal, AI-based Mosaic platform — an initiative aiming to achieve excellent accessibility across languages and media formats.

At the end of his presentation, Albert called on the community to actively participate in building the first Slovenian multimedia accessibility platform. He emphasized the importance of joining forces to secure EU funding, especially for small companies, which are often excluded from the EU Accessibility Act due to their lower income.

In his personal view, accessibility is most crucial in the smallest environments, where support and inclusion are often most urgently needed.
